Snapdragon 8 Gen 5: Rumors, Leaks, Price & Release Date

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5Snapdragon 8 Gen 5: Rumors, Leaks, Price & Release Date. Don McGuire, CMO of chipset maker Qualcomm, said the upcoming Snapdragon Summit in October will translate to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Release. The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is expected to be paired with the latest Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF system. Let’s dive into the details in this article.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Rumors

Qualcomm CMO Don McGuire revealed in a video on X that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will have a “supercharged” Orion CPU. It will also have an advanced neural processing unit, further boosting AI capabilities.

The Orion CPU was present in the Snapdragon X Elite chipset designed for laptops. But then, it was designed only for laptops. According to Qualcomm, they are aiming for “amazing performance levels” with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. And that could cost it more – meaning phones equipped with it could cost more, too.

A leaked source claimed the Snapdragon 8 Gen could be clocked up to 4.0GHz, a massive increase over the previous one. Another leaker claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be clocked at up to 4.3GHz and could achieve a single-core score of around 3,500 on Geekbench.

Also, according to 91Mobiles, another benchmark leak provided more conservative results with a 2,845 single-core score and a 10,628 multi-core result. We’ve also heard from various leaks that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will support LPDDR6 RAM, which is expected to debut later this year. And faster than the RAM currently used on phones. If it supports this, it will significantly improve the AI capabilities of the device.

Finally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will likely be paired with a Snapdragon X80 5G modem. The X80 has a dedicated 5G AI processor, which makes it smarter in terms of power and efficiency.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Release Date:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was announced at the Snapdragon Summit held in Hawaii last year in October. And according to GSMArena.com’s information, the Snapdragon Summit will be held in October this year. Where chipmakers are going to present 8 Gen 5.

But it’s likely to wait longer before any phone ships with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. It is also said that the chip will be built on TSMC’s 4nm node. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is likely only available in China, unlike the earlier Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. But it will take time to open globally.
