I’m saying this from a place where I’ve actually tested the competition: the Lenovo Yoga 9i is now the best laptop on the market. The only caveat is that Dell hasn’t announced the XPS 13 for this year, and HP hasn’t announced the Spectre x360 for this year, but Lenovo has gone above and beyond what it’s offered in previous generations. It’s incredible. The bottom line is that if you want to go premium, this is the laptop to get.
The design is a big part of it. The Lenovo Yoga 9i 2024 actually feels sexy, which is something I haven’t said about it before. It keeps the rotating soundbar, which has even better audio quality than its predecessor, which was previously best-in-class. And the screen is OLED, with customization options for 2.8K 90Hz or 4K 60Hz.
2024 Lenovo Yoga 9i (Price and availability of the Lenovo Yoga 9i
Lenovo currently sells only one model, which starts at $1,249. Other models will be available at Best Buy and Amazon.
Lenovo’s latest Yoga 9i laptops were first revealed at CES in January this year. While it was months before they began shipping, it’s worth noting that Intel hadn’t even revealed the processors that would power these devices. Now, I’d describe it as a slow rollout. Lenovo.com only offers one model, which costs $1,079. It has a Core i7-1260P processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, and an FHD+ display.
Of course, there will be additional configurations. The ones sent to reviewers had 2.8K or 4K OLED screens, 16GB RAM, and 512GB or 1TB storage. When I asked Lenovo where I could buy one, I was told that these configurations are from Best Buy SKUs, but the listings aren’t yet live.
Storm Grey, a gunmetal gray, and Oatmeal, another word for champagne or pale gold, are among the colors available. The Lenovo Yoga 9i (2024) is the most beautiful Lenovo laptop in history. It has been completely redesigned, with shiny and curved edges. This is often the case with Lenovo’s consumer PCs, where you’d get a gray slab.
New Yoga 9i Design & Building
When I took the Yoga 9i out of the box, I knew I was dealing with a high-quality machine. The device’s all-aluminum CNC design gives it a sturdy appearance and a familiar feel. It almost appears that the laptop is constructed from two large tablets. There are no creaks in the chassis, and the rounded edges give the impression that the device is made of a single piece of aluminum. It’s also a one-of-a-kind design, which I appreciate.
The handling was also excellent. I usually grabbed the device from the corners while it was open. I never had the impression that the chassis was weak, and the laptop was certainly light enough to be handled in this manner. The symmetry is also genuine, as the laptop is well-balanced when closed or open.
My only complaint about the handling is that the finishes are a little too smooth to the touch for my liking. The top and bottom matte finish coatings of smooth aluminum make the device appear clean. As a result, the device is a little more difficult to grasp than others. It could certainly be worse, but it’s worth noting.
Let’s get into the actual design now. The lid has a smooth matte finish and the color “oatmeal,” according to Lenovo. It’s suitable. An embossed Yoga logo can be found in one corner. On the other side is your standard Lenovo badge. Both look good and blend in.
Yoga 9i Dual Screen 2024
This laptop’s screen is a strong selling point. Every day, the 14″ 28801800 OLED panel is a sight to behold. I enjoy reviewing OLED laptops because it allow me to escape the backlight bleed and IPS glow of my daily driver and enjoy the unlimited contrast ratio.
Power Full Yoga 9i Hardware & Performance
The overall performance is excellent. It handled everything I put it through very well and would probably make a good work machine, despite the fact that I believe the device is more appealing as a content-consuming computer. 16GB of RAM should be sufficient for daily use. It’s soldered, so double-check your configuration before purchasing. There are also 8GB configurations available, which may be insufficient.
Lenovo Yoga 9i Noise, Heat, Connectivity, Speakers & others
This laptop’s cooling module is adequate. The CPU isn’t producing much heat in the first place, but with limited space and the fact that the screen flips around, the limitations are understandable.
The fans don’t really turn on much during normal use. Streaming videos is typically an idle fan task, which is beneficial. However, if you surf the web long enough, the fans will eventually switch to a medium-pitched whirl at around 34 dB. (A). You will definitely notice the noise if you are in a quiet room.
As Internet usage increased, so did the number of fans. The fans made 38dB(A) of noise, which I measured. However, CPU temperatures average around 57 degrees Celsius, which is perfectly acceptable.
Even during my gaming sessions, the temperature averaged 63 degrees Celsius and peaked at 79 degrees Celsius. This is the highest the fans got, which was still only 42dB(A) on Intelligent Cooling. So, all in all, tolerable. Keeping your laptop in Quiet mode will mitigate these effects.
Surface temperatures were also excellent. Throughout my use, I never found the laptop to be too hot to use on my lap. Check out the FLIR images I captured while streaming on battery and gaming on power. Both are not bad!
