January 2023 Security Update

Almost every month for the past three years, Google has routinely released a new Android Security Bulletin on the first Monday of the month. This is why it’s not surprising that Google released the Android Security Bulletin for January 2023 today and that a new security update is currently going out for Pixel phones that are supported. A few Samsung Galaxy handsets have begun to receive a fresh round of fixes.

The following significant Pixel feature release is anticipated for December. Therefore, the new security upgrade and a few bug fixes are all that this month’s update offers. However, this is noteworthy since it is the first version of the recently released Pixel 7 series. The whole changelog is available here. Android Security Update Bulletin for January 2023

Google revealed many security flaws impacting the Android foundation, and system. Including Google Play system upgrades in the most recent Android Security Bulletin. The security patch level for 2022-11-01 has been used to fix these vulnerabilities. Google has also made a number of flaws in closed-source vendor components public. There is a fix for these flaws.

Last, The security patch level for 2022-11-05 addresses these vulnerabilities.

Bulletin/Functional Update for the Pixel Update

The Android security update for January 2023 fixes certain bugs that are specific to Google’s Pixel phones in addition to the small web on all Android devices. These are described in the current-month Pixel Update Bulletin. The Pixel 4a series, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, and Pixel 6 series. Pixel 6a, and Pixel 7 series have all progressively begun receiving the January 2023 security update. The most recent release has a build number of TP1A.221105.002 (or for the Pixel 7 family, TD1A.221105.001/.003). Notably, this month’s lineup does not include the Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL.

January 2023 Update for Samsung

Samsung is releasing the January 2023 Android software upgrade to the third and 4th generation Galaxy foldable in addition to the Pixel devices previously stated. The build numbers for the global and US unlocked versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 are F721BXXS1AVJE and F721U1UES1AVJ7, respectively.

Be on the lookout for the new patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s US-unlocked version of the software, which is now at version F936U1UES1AVJ1. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 unlocked variants have also been updated to the latest release. Using the software versions F926U1UES2DVJ1 and F711U1UES3EVJ2, respectively.
