New Apple A18 Pro 2024 Chip to offer powerful on-device AI performance
Apple is a famous technology and chip manufacturing company. It will appear with an advanced chip A18 Pro for its newly invented iPhone, the iPhone 16 Pro model. According to Jeff Pu, Apple’s supply chain investment analyst, the upcoming next-generation A18 Pro chip will feature a larger die size to boost artificial intelligence performance for the iPhone 16 Pro model.
Increasing the die area of a chip means it can accommodate more transistors and specialized components, which generally allows for improved performance. On the other hand, as the die size increases, so does the risk of defects and design errors. It can also affect energy efficiency and heat dissipation.
Also, in a research note with Hong Kong-based investment firm Haitong International Securities, Pu added that the A18 Pro chip will have a 6-core GPU, equal to or better than the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro chip.

Apple says this new 6-core GPU is up to 20% faster and more energy efficient than the GPU on the A16 Bionic chip. It will stick with a 6-core GPU for the A18 Pro chip, so the graphics improvements for the iPhone 16 Pro model this year will increase.
